Message from the President

President’s Perspective

As we progress into the new calendar year, it’s good to look back at the progress of the past one.

We took a major step forward with formation of our new Community Based Day Program which will operate out of our Rowe Street location. Hiring Barry Schwartz as our new Vice President of Programs was another important addition, and having Barry on board will help us ensure the highest quality of programming.

The 2013 Annual Gala, featuring Natalie Cole, was hugely successful, grossing more than $500,000. In September, the second Price Center Community Forum, emceed by Maria Stephanos of FOX25 News, drew a packed house of local businesspeople to the Capital Grille. Dr. Kerry Healey, president of Babson College, spoke about creative partnerships between communities and the Boston area’s colleges and universities. The next Forum event is being planned for this April.

In July, we were able to implement new reimbursement rates for our employment program, and are still in the process of working with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to determine new rates for our residential programs as well. The current plan is that they will be finalized and implemented by April 1, and we are hopeful the new rates will eliminate some of the program deficits we are currently experiencing.

Another significant area of progress on rates is the recent decision by the state to increase Day Habilitation rates by 9.7 percent as of February 1. This is exciting news, and I want to personally thank everyone who made phone calls to support ADDP’s Day Habilitation phone campaign in November.  Your overwhelming number of calls to state officials made a difference. Thank you for your advocacy!

Finally, the Board of Directors recently approved the final version of our new strategic plan.  We are starting implementation groups on the Board and program level, and we believe the plan will be a good guide as we go forward.  A copy of the new plan is posted here if you would like to look at it.  We are also looking for a local property where all of our programs can operate.  It’s a challenging task, but we are hopeful to find a building where The Price Center can be centered!

The past year has been a busy and productive one for The Price Center. To carry our success forward, we now find ourselves even more dependent upon the financial support of our donors.  We are grateful for your continued generosity, which allows us to continue our mission of serving people with developmental disabilities.  Thank you for helping us do our important work.
